The Merida Reacto 4000 road bike was built by the Merida staff. The frame and fork are made of carbon, which makes them lightweight. Thanks to the 2×11-speed Shimano 105 drivetrain and Merida Expert CW wheels, the bike provides excellent performance during sport. The geometry is designed to suit both male and female morphology. It combines a sophisticated structure in the tubes that adds efficiency, as well as a plus of aerodynamics thanks to the profiles that adapt.
The Merida Reacto 4000 road bike is a bike that has gained even more aerodynamics than the previous versions. The Reacto is a bike born to compete, carbon fibre is the most flexible material when it comes to designing shapes in the frame and it is also light and very resistant. Improving aerodynamics was the main objective in the development of the Reacto. But as its predecessor was one of the best performing aerodynamic bikes the work of the R&D team was not easy. Attention had to be paid to the smallest details in order to achieve an overall improvement. Rigidity, weight, comfort are all very important qualities to develop this bike. By using fluid dynamics (CFD) it has been possible to model and optimize the design of the Reacto in a virtual wind tunnel. The CFD calculations helped the R&D team locate the weakest points in the design to optimize aerodynamic performance. The greatest benefits were obtained by working on those areas where flows diverged, especially in side wind conditions. With this we manage to reduce the drag and minimize the sail effect.
The new design of the fork, with greater integration into the frame, saves 2 watts, the handlebars and the total integration of the cables and the covers, as well as significantly improving the aesthetics of the bike by 2 watts for each cable that is no longer exposed to the air. Increasing the distance between the rear wheel and the tie rods and the front wheel with the fork crown improves airflow in these areas, resulting in greater aerodynamic efficiency. In addition, they optimized other small details such as the new evolution of the Disc Cooler technology so that it interferes as little as possible with the wind. And they used new thru-axles that are fully integrated into the fork. The S-Flex technology remains part of the bike’s structure in order to provide extra comfort.
